selah

Psalm 62:5-8 (NKJV)
5) My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him.
 6) He only is my rock and my salvation;
He is my defense; I shall not be moved.
 7) In God is my salvation and my glory;
 The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God. 8) Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.

The last full week of each month, Discovery puts all regularly scheduled activities on hold—no LIFE Groups, ALPHA course, Marriage Course or rehearsals of any kind. During this week, we encourage everyone to come out to a special Thursday night gathering for worship and prayer. We call this Selah.

Selah is a Hebrew word found mainly in the Psalms, coming after certain passages. Many believe its intent is to cause us to pause and reflect on what was just said in the scriptures. At Discovery, we see the great blessing and benefit of taking a week each month to dial back our busy schedules and get in tune with what God is saying. Here, Selah has become an acronym for five key elements of hearing and responding to God’s voice:

Silence - Being stilled and quieted before God.

Expectation - Trusting in what God has spoken, will speak, and is speaking into our lives.

Listening - Hearing and receiving the voice of God.

Adoration - Responding with worship for what God has done, is doing and will do.

Heartcry - Pouring out our hearts to God as His desires become our desires.

The special Selah gathering is the last Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM.
